Today, most wines don’t contain any gluten, but did you know they used to? Wine barrels often used to be sealed with wheat paste, and wheat was also used as a fining agent. Neither of those practices are not very common today, but they used to cause more of an issue for those with gluten sensitivities. In addition, wine yeasts are grown on non-grain substrates and shouldn’t have any cross-contamination with wheat gluten.
